BACKGROUND
Michael N. Tameo, M.D., was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He
graduated from the University of Rhode Island and obtained a Medical
Degree at Saba University in the Netherlands-Antilles. He completed a
residency in general surgery at York Hospital in York, PA. As chief
resident, he received the Gilmore Rothrock, M.D. award for “The Surgical
Resident with the Most Gifted Hands”. Following residency, he completed
a specialty fellowship in vascular surgery with the University of
Pennsylvania at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. During
fellowship, Dr. Tameo gained experience with open vascular and
endovascular techniques. Additionally, he authored several clinical
research manuscripts in vascular surgery that have been published in the
Journal of Vascular Surgery and which he has presented at numerous
local, regional, and national vascular society meetings. Dr. Tameo
joined Commonwealth Surgical Associates in July of 2009. CLINICAL
INTERESTS
Dr. Tameo specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of arterial and
venous disease. He has expertise in open carotid surgery and carotid
stenting for the treatment and prevention of stroke and TIA; open
surgical repair and the less invasive endovascular stent graft repair of
arterial aneurysms located in the abdominal aorta (AAA), renal, splenic,
visceral, and peripheral arteries; peripheral vascular disease including
open and endovascular revascularization for treatment of claudication,
rest pain, and ischemic ulcers or wounds; open and endovascular
treatment of renal artery disease for treatment of renovascular
hypertension and renal insufficiency; venous disease including
radiofrequency ablation, phlebectomy, and sclerotherapy for treatment of
varicose and spider veins, as well as, DVT treatment including
thrombectomy, thrombolysis, and IVC filter placement and removal;
dialysis access and maintenance; open and endovascular treatment of
mesenteric ischemia; and open and endovascular treatment of thoracic
outlet syndrome.

NON-INVASIVE IMAGING
Dr. Tameo uses non-invasive imaging modalities from our accredited
vascular lab, located within our office, for screening/diagnosis and
surveillance of vascular disease. Patients can often have the necessary tests
performed, and meet with Dr. Tameo during the same office visit. He interprets
vascular studies from labs located in our office, as well as, Lawrence Memorial,
Melrose-Wakefield, and Winchester Hospitals.
ACADEMIC PURSUITS
Dr. Tameo is involved in the vascular education and clinical training of medical
students and residents from Tufts University. He has authored several clinical
research manuscripts in vascular surgery that have been published in the Journal
of Vascular Surgery and which he has presented at numerous local, regional, and
national vascular society meetings.
